CalPERS seeks an Associate Accounting Analyst (AAA) in the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division, Pension Accounting Section.

Under the general supervision of the Financial Accountant II, the incumbent independently perform complex analysis on the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF) contributions, expenses, and reserves including member record general ledger financial transactions. Participate in fiscal and/or system projects that have a high level of complexity and significantly impact division-wide operations. Analyze and evaluates best practices in Pension Accounting. Resolves complex accounting and automated system issues. Responsible for analyzing new accounting requirements and develops new financial transactions in the PeopleSoft Financial Accounting System and my|CalPERS.

Working Conditions

  • This position is designated as office-centered and works primarily onsite at the Sacramento, CA - Headquarters at least three weekdays. 
  • May be required to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to work Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications”, and each statement must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed.

  1. Describe your knowledge and experience analyzing, researching, reconciling, and reporting general ledger and fund financial data. Please include the type of financial data, timing of reconciliations and reports, and accounting systems used. Please include any knowledge and experience of risk pooling. 
  2. Describe your strengths that would make you the best candidate for this position.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Perform well under pressure all while working in a fast paced and multitasking environment 
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Public Employee Retirement Law, State Administrative Manual and Government Accounting Standards Board pronouncements 
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are highly desirable
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing
