Job Summary:

The Instructor is responsible for conducting training classes in accordance with ISTC policies, learning objectives, and Course Standard Operating Procedures. Instructors are internally classified as follows based on experience and knowledge level:

• Level 1 – Entry – Less than 5-years’ experience and knowledge

• Level 2 – Intermediate – 5 to 10 years’ experience and knowledge

• Level 3 - Senior/Lead – 10+ years’ experience and expertise

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Duties

• Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.

• Teach content and skills in accordance with the curriculum and course standard operating procedures.

• Identify student and classroom needs and work to implement as necessary.

• Maintain disciplined, orderly and productive classroom environment.

• Use a variety of teaching methods to engage with all types of students and learning styles.

• Encourage positive class participation and administer tests to evaluate student progress when required.

• Manage classroom and testing procedures to ensure that test integrity and validity is maintained including the explanation and administration of the ISTC testing policy.

• Assist students with login procedures for electronic testing, and support lab proctors in maintaining a smooth and secure computer-based testing environment as needed.

• Participate as a rotational instructor on the ‘After Hours Notification’ weekly schedule and as posted on the Instructor’s Monthly Calendar.

• Travel as needed to evaluate updated course material. Participate in train the trainer courses, certifications, and provide instruction of classes when required at client sites.

• Assist in development of training material and curriculum, to include multimedia and traditional applications.

• Adhere to ISTC policy and procedures established to ensure training integrity.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures, schedules and presentation documents.

• Ability to create routine reports.

• Ability to speak and present material effectively before groups of customers and trainees of organizations.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.

• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

• Demonstrate proficiency in using computers and common software applications, including Microsoft Office tools including, spreadsheets, slide shows presentations, email, etc.

Education

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. 

• B.S./B.A. or related experience preferred.

• 2 years previous instructional/training experience preferred.

• 3 years Petrochemical, Industrial and/or construction related work preferred.

• Previous experience with Safety and Health responsibilities a plus.

Physical Demands

In addition, the ability to talk, hear, and comprehend, the use of hands and arms to handle, feel, or reach. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
