Job Description and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In response to growing student academic needs, the Academic Success Coach provides various academic support services to accommodate school programming and student needs.

This position reports to the Dean of Academics and the Academic Support Counselor.

The following list of general essential duties and responsibilities are determined and assigned by the Academic Support Counselor and Dean of Academics in coordination with the Learning Services Counselor and are dependent upon specific school and student needs, candidate aptitude, and experience. Hours: 8:45am-4:45pm M- F.

  • The Coach will be assigned a caseload of 15-25 students. The students will be 9th graders with an ILP (Individual Learning Plan), students on Academic Monitoring as identified by the Dean of Academics and/or the Academic Support Counselor, or students identified by the counseling team, teachers, or families as having a high priority for academic intervention.

  • The Coach will provide individualized weekly support for students on caseload as assigned by the Academic Support Counselor.

    • Work one-on-one with students to create and monitor Assignment Plans, as well as to ensure family involvement and student accountability.

  • Provide general classroom support in such courses as English 9, Algebra 1, Geometry, Integrated Science 1 and 2, and Theology, as assigned by the Dean of Academics and/or Academic Support Counselor:

    • Working with small groups or individual students as determined by the classroom teacher.

  • Maintain accountability and monitoring of students on caseload:

    • Track general progress on Schoology and ensure student accountability with spreadsheets specific to caseload.

    • Check the weekly D/F/I list produced by the school registrar and reviewed by the Academic Support Counselor: Assess current grades for the caseload based on this report.

    • Facilitate communications between students, families, counselors, and teachers.

  • Provide general support at First Friday Study Hall for students placed on Academic Monitoring, including taking attendance and checking work status to be done that day.

  • Maintain student attendance at Pilot Prep (after-school academic support program).

  • May be asked to provide general subject matter support at Pilot Prep by the Academic Support Counselor.

  • Navigator Notes: organize and implement Navigator Notes accommodation for student with Individual Learning Plans

  • Be available to teach a 6-week Summer School session which focuses on credit recovery and academic support; subjects to be determined.

Eligibility

  • Prior teaching experience with young people is preferred; teaching or academic coaching experience, specifically.

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.

  • Standard health and background checks, including Department of Justice fingerprinting, are required.

Compensation $30-35 hour, depending on experience
